Does your cat seem anxious and stressed out all of the time? The Anxious Pet’s hemp oil for cats may be able to help.
Cats are incredibly sensitive. While being hyper-aware of their surroundings makes them adept hunters, it also means that subtle stimuli can cause an overload. If your cat hides a lot, is suddenly aggressive, meows excessively, or gets seriously stressed out when guests come over, it’s likely that he’s suffering from anxiety. Some apparent behavioral issues, such as inappropriate urination, can be rooted in anxiety, too.
Your cat may have anxiety or be stressed out for a number of reasons. It doesn’t matter if your cat’s anxious because of a new pet, move to a new house, loud music next door, or thunderstorms. Hemp oil with CBD can help. Let’s dive in and find out how CBD oil can help calm your cat down and why The Anxious Pet’s full-spectrum CBD hemp oil may be a good choice.

How can CBD hemp oil help cats with anxiety?
The anxiety-reducing effects of CBD oil are based on a homeostasis-inducing interaction between CBD and your cat’s built-in endocannabinoid system.
Let’s start with the basics. Cannabis plants, including hemp, are filled with chemicals called phytocannabinoids, or plant-produced cannabinoids. Different types of cannabis plants are rich in different types of cannabinoids. There are over 113 identified cannabinoids found in cannabis plants, but the ones you’ll hear the most about are cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Hemp is rich in CBD, while marijuana is rich in THC. THC is the psychoactive cannabinoid in marijuana that causes a high—something you want to avoid giving your cat.
It’s important to make this distinction because while marijuana is still illegal under federal law, hemp-derived CBD oil is legal in all 50 states as long as it contains less than .3% THC.
CBD interacts with your cat’s endocannabinoid system to induce homeostasis.
Every vertebrate is born with its own endocannabinoid system, and that includes your cat. This system of receptors and enzymes exists in the brain and nervous system. The endocannabinoid system affects your cat’s sleep, mood, memory, pain, motivation, and appetite. To put it simply, the endocannabinoid system helps to ensure homeostasis or balance in the body.
Your cat’s body produces cannabinoids on its own. These self-produced endocannabinoids are called anandamide and 2-AG.
Just like the endocannabinoids produced by your cat’s body, plant-based cannabinoids can be introduced to the system and bind to the endocannabinoid receptors. These phytocannabinoids can cause a variety of different effects, from creating a high to simply encouraging homeostasis.
Is CBD effective for cats with anxiety?
There’s still a lot left to learn about how CBD interacts with our cats’ bodies. A lot of what we know about CBD for cats is extrapolated from research on humans, mice, and rats. According to this research, CBD can help reduce anxiety by aiding serotonin production. CBD attaches to serotonin receptors in the brain—thus boosting your cat’s mood and lowering anxiety.
There’s also a lot of anecdotal evidence that CBD helps cats with anxiety as well as a number of other issues. It’s a powerful supplement that can help and probably won’t hurt.

Let’s take a closer look at The Anxious Pet brand.
Now that we know a little more about how hemp oil can help cats with anxiety, let’s dive in and learn more about The Anxious Pet.
The Anxious Pet products are veterinarian-formulated to bring relief to anxious dogs and cats.
The Anxious Pet company was created as an answer to the founder’s own dog, Boulder’s, anxiety issues.
After seeing how Boulder struggled with anxiety and a fear of water, he gathered together a group of experts from across the pet industry to find a solution. With the help of a group of product research and development experts and a veterinarian on board, The Anxious Pet brand was born—and Boulder found some relief.
Each product is formulated by a veterinarian with five years of experience in CBD therapy for pets with cancer. This guidance ensures your pet is getting the right balance of CBD, antioxidants, and fatty acids from each Anxious Pet product.
All of their products are 100% organic and non-GMO. The hemp is sourced from US farms and extracted in a facility in Colorado.
Today, The Anxious Pet has a line of organic hemp CBD oil for dogs and cats. Soft chews for dogs are coming soon, too!
What makes The Anxious Pet hemp CBD oil for cats special?
The Anxious Pet hemp oil is 100% organic and produced in a facility in Colorado.
The Anxious Pet products are extracted using a solvent-free supercritical CO2 method. CO2 extraction is generally considered one of the cleanest extraction methods and yields a product that’s rich in cannabinoids.
The Colorado facility where The Anxious Pet hemp oils are extracted is cGMP certified, which means that it follows the current Good Manufacturing Practices for pharmaceutical manufacturing as set out by the FDA.
This CBD-rich hemp extract is combined with organic fractionated coconut oil. Fractionated coconut oil has been distilled and had its fats separated. It has a longer shelf life and stays liquid in cooler temperatures than virgin coconut oil.

The Anxious Pet CBD oil is a full-spectrum hemp product.
What does full-spectrum mean? There are three main types of CBD products available—full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and isolates.
- Full-spectrum means that the hemp oil contains all of the components of the hemp plant, including the cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes. Full-spectrum CBD products also contain trace amounts of THC (.06% in the case of The Anxious Pet hemp oil), but not enough to make your cat high.
- Broad-spectrum products include select cannabinoids and components from the original plant. Some compounds, such as THC, have been 100% removed.
- CBD isolates are pharmaceutically-produced 100% CBD products—they don’t contain any of the other elements of the hemp plant.
There’s a lot of debate over which type of CBD products provide the most positive effects. While CBD isolates work more quickly and can deliver a large dose of CBD, full-spectrum products offer longer-lasting effects. Some argue that the compounds of the entire plant in a full-spectrum product work in synergy to create a positive effect in ways we don’t yet understand.
The Anxious Pet hemp products are third party tested.
Each hemp product is held to a certain standard laid out in their Certificate of Analysis or COA. This COA is an evaluation of the product which provides an objective measure of each compound and its potency, terpene profiles, and containment information. In addition to testing all of their own products, The Anxious Pet has its hemp oil third party tested by an ISO 17025 standard lab. This designation means that the lab meets the international standard set out for testing and calibration laboratories.
These comprehensive test results and the COA are available on The Anxious Pet website, so you can understand exactly what’s inside the product you’re offering your cat. You’ll find a complete breakdown of the percentages of cannabinoids, how much of those are CBD and THC, the terpene content in the hemp oil, and whether or not any pesticides are detected in the oil. They also test for heavy metals, solvents, and other toxic substances.
The Anxious Pet review: Our experience with The Anxious Pet hemp oil.
The bottle was well-packaged and stayed safe during shipping.
When we received our shipment of The Anxious Pet hemp oil, I noticed it was very well packaged. The bottle was well-cushioned within the box and was completely intact upon arrival.
The Anxious Pet hemp oil comes in 1-ounce bottles. Each one contains either 800 or 400mg of CBD and features a built-in eyedropper for easy dosing and administration. We got one of the 400mg bottles—this lower CBD concentration is good for cats or small dogs!
The Anxious Pet recommends you start with a low dose of CBD.
It’s easy to figure out how much hemp oil to offer your cat based on the chart provided on the side of the box. The instructions indicate how much to administer based on your cat’s weight and age. They recommend giving your cat this amount with a meal once a day for the first three days and then to increase administration to twice a day—once with breakfast and once with dinner.
We administered the oil directly using the eyedropper.
The Anxious Pet hemp oil is an orally administered product. You can either drop the oil directly into your cat’s mouth for the most effective absorption, or you can add it on top of your cat’s meal. It’s recommended to offer the hemp oil to your cat around mealtime, anyway, since cannabinoids are best absorbed along with a meal that contains fats.
Like most cats, Wessie’s not a big fan of having anything administered to him through an eyedropper, but he didn’t seem to mind the taste once he got past having oil dropped into his mouth.
Overall, what did we think of The Anxious Pet hemp oil?
Our experience with The Anxious Pet was good from start to finish. The hemp oil arrived quickly, was packaged well, and it was easy to administer using the built-in eyedropper. Wessie didn’t seem to mind the flavor.
We can’t judge whether or not the oil helps cats with anxiety. Wessie is a laid back cat, to begin with, and we didn’t try the oil long enough to determine if we noticed any difference.
The Anxious Pet’s customer service was great. We used the live chat on their website to get answers on product sourcing quickly and easily. They also offer refunds within 60 days if you’re not satisfied with your purchase. Shipping via USPS is free in the contiguous United States.
A lot of pet CBD brands use vague labeling, leaving me wondering what’s actually inside the bottle and whether or not there’s anything inside that can benefit my cats. That’s why it’s important to us that CBD oil manufacturers have a Certificate of Analysis, like The Anxious Pet, and make that detailed ingredient and percentage breakdown available to their customers. We appreciate the transparency and quality standards The Anxious Pet holds itself to.
If you’re considering trying hemp-based CBD oil for your cat’s anxiety, it looks like The Anxious Pet could be a strong choice.
