CatLadyBox Review, Coupon Codes, and Unboxing – We Tried a Cat Subscription Box

Last Updated on

CatLadyBox is a gift box subscription service that sends out monthly boxes of awesome goodies for cat ladies and their cats. The company supports independent artists and small businesses and makes weekly donations to cat rescue organizations.

What comes in the CatLadyBox?

Every month, the CatLadyBox follows a different theme. Past box themes include Cats in the Kitchen, Meowlentine’s Day, Super Meowdel, Glitz and Glampurr, and Cat Mom’s Day.

You can order either a CrazyCatLadyBox, which contains 3-4 human-oriented cat-themed items and 2 goodies for your cat, or a CatLadyBox, which just contains 3-4 items for the cat lady. The latter is a good choice for cat lovers who can’t have a cat.

In the past, CatLadyBoxes have contained necklaces, string lights, cat ear headphones, cat rugs, cat toys, makeup brushes, sweatshirts, and kitchen utensils. When you sign up, you’ll enter your shirt size so that any garments will be the correct size. These items are largely sourced from independent artists and small businesses.

The real beauty of the CatLadyBox is that you never know what’s going to come in the next box. If there’s something specific you’d like to buy, you can always head to the CatLadyBox store and order individual items from past boxes.

CatLadyBox Cares

The charitable end of the CatLadyBox business is called CatLadyBox Cares. Every week, the company chooses a rescue organization that will receive a donation. In most cases, the chosen rescue receives a $200 cash donation, along with a box of CatLadyBox toys for the kitties to play with.

If you’d like to nominate a rescue for donation, you can do so here.

How much does the CatLadyBox cost?

The Crazy CatLadyBox starts at $39.99/month. The CatLadyBox is slightly cheaper at $34.99/month. If you prepay for three or six months, your per-box rate will go down. Shipping is free to the United States, $8.95/box to Canada, and $12.95/box to the UK.

Our Experience with the CatLadyBox

Disclosure: “Wildernesscat received a CatLadyBox for free in exchange for an honest review. Although the product was gratis, all opinions in this review remain our own and we were in no way influenced by the company.”

We received the November 2018 Crazy CatLadyBox, which had a “Cats in the Kitchen” theme. Inside of the box was a neatly-arranged variety of items for both cats and people, all of which reflected the Cats in the Kitchen theme.

It was fun to open up the box, discovering all the goodies inside. As I poked through the box, I could see how people appreciate the CatLadyBox, particularly as a one-time gift for a cat-loving friend or family member.
The box contained three items for people and two goodies for our cats.

Human Gifts

  • Cat Spoon Rest – retail value $9.99
  • Mod Cats Dish Towels – retail value $9.99
  • Set of 5 Cat Kitchen Utensils – retail value $19.99

Cat Gifts

  • Cat Chef Hat – retail value $4.99
  • Cat Bread Toy – retail value $4.99

Total Retail Value: $49.95

All of these items were CatLadyBox exclusives, so you can’t get them anywhere else. This means two things. One, the items are interesting and unique. It also means that CatLadyBox gets to decide the retail value of the included items and will always make the box sound like a good deal.

The CatLadyBox, however, isn’t one of those subscription boxes intended for value-seekers. It’s filled with a combination of practical and impractical items, most of which you probably don’t really need.

The purpose of the CatLadyBox isn’t saving money—it’s all about fun.

Inside the Box – Products Reviewed

Cat Spoon Rest

CatLadyBox Cat Spoon Rest

5 out of 5 stars

This is a ceramic white spoon rest that’s shaped like a cat. I’m happy with the weight and quality of the piece. It’s large and deep enough for all of my cooking spoons and adds a touch of whimsy to the kitchen counter. And for those of you who aren’t sure you’re grown-up enough for a spoon rest, let me tell you—the fussiness is part of its charm, but it’s also practical.

Using the cat-shaped spoon rest is a big upgrade from plopping tomato sauce-covered spoons down on the glass cooktop and HUGE upgrade from watching the same saucy spoon lose its balance on the edge of the pan and go clattering and splattering to the floor. You know what I’m talking about.

Overall, this was a surprisingly practical and awesome item. Good job, CatLadyBox!

Mod Cats Dish Towels

Mod Cats Dish Towels

4 out of 5 stars

These towels are huge, rough, and thin. I heard one reviewer describe them as soft, which baffles me. If these are soft, what does she consider rough? A cheese grater? Basically, these aren’t soft, which might be a good thing for those of you who feel a rough towel gives you a better clean.

Despite being a little rough, they’re adorable with a 60’s-inspired Mod Cats pattern. One of the towels has a white pattern with gold and black kitties, while the other has a black background printed with white and gold cats. They would look fantastic if paired with the coordinated Mod Cats Stemless Wine Glass set from the CatLadyBox collection.

Cat Kitchen Utensils

Cat Kitchen Utensils

5 out of 5 stars

This set of five kitchen utensils includes a spatula, slotted spoon, non-slotted spoon, pasta spoon, and a ladle. They’re made from silicone and are dishwasher safe. The handles are adorned with sleek, curvaceous kitty bodies that turn otherwise standard black utensils into something cattastic. These look fantastic on display and make cooking feel special.

And there’s nothing cheesy about the quality of these utensils—in fact, I feel they’re higher-quality than many of the catless utensils already in the kitchen. These are solid products.

Cat Bread Toy

5 out of 5 stars

This is a squishy toy that looks like a piece of toast and smells like fresh catnip. The cats definitely noticed the catnip smell and I’m sure they’ll discover it as a toy sooner or later. For now, it just makes a cute little kitty pillow.

Kitty Chef Hat

5 out of 5 stars

This little hat doesn’t strap onto your cat’s head, but it does make a fun toy. It’s packed with catnip and is just the right size for batting around. At first, the cats didn’t seem interested, but just last night Wessie discovered his squishy little hat started batting it across the room. Success!

What did the cats think of the CatLadyBox?

They loved it! When I placed the box down on the floor, Wessie started rubbing his head against the cardboard and rolling all over it. I think he liked the catnip toys in the box! Forest inched into the room and quietly watched Wessie go bonkers over this silly box. Becoming curious about the hullabaloo, she moved closer to the box. Before she had a chance to get a little of that ‘nip feeling for herself, Wessie stopped her with a territorial gesture.

So far, only Wessie seems interested in playing with the toys. In the wee hours of the morning, he woke up and decided to chase his little chef hat across the room. Neither of them have played with the bread yet, but Wessie likes to snooze with it under his head as a pillow. Does that say something about the potency of the catnip? Maybe…

What did we think of the CatLadyBox?

I personally can’t imagine wanting to get the box every month, though—I’m not that into knick-knacks or unexpected useful items. As a one-time gift for a cat-loving friend, however, I think this box could be amazing! I know many people would love it.
